They had moved onto the property with the intention of “living off the land” but reality of the need of money for gas, clothes, health insurance and other modern day necessities made them realize that it might be a good idea to have a real job. Bob (who had worked for NASA in Houston) went to work as an engineer for the Forest Service while Grace was kept busy with the children and a large garden.

The cabin was rented to different people as a monthly rental until a couple of years ago when they decided that if it was refurbished and made available as a vacation rental, the family would be able to schedule time to enjoy it too.

What's the Natural Bridges Cabin all about?

Bob and Grace Walker purchased this old 80 acre homestead in 1972. In 1978 they moved onto the property with their three year old daughter Nicole and a few months later their second daughter Nina was born.

They lived on the property for six years until Bob took a job in Silver City, New Mexico to advance his career and provide the family with a more urban environment while the kids (there were now three as Laura had been born a few years after Nina) were of school age.
